PowerKonnekt, the energy management system (EMS) developed by Turkish energy storage engineering company iNOVAT, has completed the commissioning process at a commercial and industrial (C&I) project that Solnet Group is carrying out with Jinko ESS Europe in Finland. The project also covers integration of, and participation in, FCR-N frequency control.
According to the company, FCR-N refers to the frequency containment reserve for normal operation. The Finnish deployment marks an important milestone in the partners’ cooperation in the country and demonstrates PowerKonnekt’s compliance with Finnish grid requirements.
Frequency control and site energy use in one system
In addition to FCR-N integration, time-of-use (TOU) energy management and self-consumption functions were optimised as part of the project. The TOU function supports managing energy use across different time periods, while the self-consumption function optimises the use of on-site generated energy at the point of consumption.
iNOVAT says PowerKonnekt, which can be adapted to local grid regulations, brings frequency control and a site’s energy use together in a single management solution. According to the company, the commissioning and FCR-N integration in Finland show that the solution can be adapted to new markets and meet the differing requirements of local grids.
Portfolio of more than 1.5 GWh in nine European countries
PowerKonnekt is described as an equipment-agnostic EMS that brings energy storage systems, the grid and consumption points together on a single platform. According to the release, it optimises a project portfolio of more than 1.5 GWh in total across nine European countries, including Finland, Italy and Romania.
Jinko ESS Europe, JinkoSolar’s European company, offers battery energy storage solutions ranging from C&I applications to utility-scale projects. Solnet Group provides solar and storage solutions to C&I customers in Europe, covering design, installation, operation and maintenance.
CEO: “We will continue to take our engineering capabilities to new markets”
Commenting on the project, iNOVAT Chairman and CEO Doğa Can Bayram said PowerKonnekt had quickly become a technology chosen not only in Türkiye but also abroad, particularly in Europe, and that the company was pleased to expand the system in Europe through partnerships with Jinko ESS Europe and Solnet Group. He added that iNOVAT would continue to take Türkiye’s advanced engineering capabilities to different regions of the world.
