EnerVenue, developer of lithium-free nickel-hydrogen batteries, has signed its first multi-megawatt-hour commercial order: 11 MWh with a major Chinese oil and gas producer. Announced on 23 September 2026, the order covers 26 containerised Energy Prism units that will store solar power at an oilfield in northern China.

Shifting daytime solar to peak hours

According to the company, the systems will shift the site’s daytime solar output to peak demand hours. Three units will ship in December 2026 and 23 in March 2027. The customer was not named; EnerVenue says safety was the primary selection factor.

Water-based, non-flammable electrolyte

The Energy Prism units use EnerVenue’s fourth-generation Aqueous Metal Cell (AMC), a nickel-hydrogen chemistry with a water-based, non-flammable electrolyte, designed for 30,000 charge cycles – up to three cycles a day for 30 years. The company says the cells passed UL 9540A fire propagation testing with no fire at cell level.

CEO Henning Rath said an oil and gas producer does not put new technology on a working site unless it is completely satisfied that the safety case is sound. CTO Dr Majid Keshavarz said the AMC chemistry does not produce the progression of events that leads to ignition, fire or explosion.

New line in Changzhou

The units will be made at the company’s new facility in Changzhou, Jiangsu, which opened on 24 September 2026. Phase 1 capacity is 250 MWh a year, with plans to reach 1 GWh in 2027.

DGUV-compliant Testing Compact Appliance Tester

Published

on

Gossen Metrawatt has further expanded its METRALINE product series. Adding the METRALINE PAT, the measurement technology specialist has launched an economical, intuitive device for testing portable appliances in accordance with DGUV Regulation 3. (DGUV is the umbrella association of German statutory occupational accident institutions.)

Weighing only 1.3 kg, the compact appliance tester enables a wide range of protection tests and individual measurements, which can be accessed via shortcut buttons. The tester covers all necessary measurements for repaired or modified electrical appliances as well as repeat tests according to DIN VDE 0701-0702. This includes safe and fast testing and measurement of protective conductor resistance, insulation resistance, PE current, touch current, and voltage in SELV circuits.

The tester features automatic rating according to normative limits for measuring protective conductor resistance, insulation resistance, leakage currents, and voltages in ELV circuits. All active tests are carried out in just one step, including functional testing and displaying the RMS values. The high-contrast LC display clearly shows selection menus, available settings, limits, measurements, notes, error messages, and I/O settings. Plain text operation with schematic circuit diagrams as well as red and green signaling LEDs for evaluation of measured values simplify testing.

The tester runs on 230 VAC mains voltage. The tested device is connected via the 16 A test socket. METRALINE PAT ensures safe testing by checking the protective ground conductor of the power connection, checking the tested device for short circuits, and triggering an automatic shutdown in case of dangerous leakage currents. The tester features USB and Bluetooth interfaces to transmit measurement and test data. This enables operators using the ELEXONIQ METRALINE app (available in the Google Play store) to feed measured values via Bluetooth to the IZYTRONIQ testing software that supports multiple testers.

GoodWe Energy Storage Inverter Awarded World’s First 2018 Version of the VDE-AR-N 4105 Certificate

Published

GoodWe was awarded the VDE-AR-N 4105 certificate for its three-phase energy storage inverter at the TÜV Rheinland Solar Photovoltaic Technology Symposium on the 15th of November, making it the world’s first recipient of the 2018 version of the German VDE-AR-N 4105 certificate. Mr. Li Weichun, General Manager of TÜV Rheinland China Solar Services, and Mr. Fang Gang, Vice President of GoodWe, were among the attendees at the event.

At the award ceremony, Mr. Li Weichun congratulated GoodWe on successfully passing the 2018 version of the German VDE-AR-N 4105 certification. Li Weichun expressed: “The new version of the 4105 standard has undergone the review draft on June 23, 2017 and the first edition on May 17, 2018, until the official release on November 1, 2018. TÜV Rheinland always keeps up with the latest standard dynamics and will be the fastest one to bring them to domestic inverters and energy storage manufacturers, even hosting two special seminars to promote these new standards. GoodWe’s R&D personnel participated in the training and throughout the process, quickly and effectively introduced new standard technical requirements into product development. After the official version was released, the technological aspect was updated and the standard upgrade was completed quickly. This is the first company that is able to fully demonstrate its technological research and developmental capabilities, its ability to respond quickly to market changes and standard repetitions, and it is for these reasons that has been certified. The new standard is very different from the old version. It is not easy to complete the test and pass the technical evaluation in such a short period of time. Congratulations to GoodWe.”

Mr. Fang Gang, Vice-President of GoodWe, thanked TÜV Rheinland for their support in the project. TÜV Rheinland and GoodWe have cooperated for many years, and the technical teams have established a mutual understanding with each other as well. This time, GoodWe won the first 2018 version of the German VDE-AR-N 4105 certificate issued by TÜV Rheinland, and thanks to the support and assistance provided by technical experts from TÜV Rheinland, the GoodWe ET series has been successfully certified, which is another achievement for GoodWe’s energy storage technological innovations. This also proves that GoodWe’s innovative ability in the residential field and the pursuit of safer and more efficient products will push the development of the storage systems to a new era.

The certified product is a new three-phase energy storage inverter, the ET series, that enables enhanced energy independence and maximizes self-consumption through export limit feature and time of use shifts for reduced electric bills. Covering a power range of 5 kW, 8 kW and 10 kW, the ET Series allows up to 100% overloading to maximize power output and features Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) to inductive loads such as air conditioners or refrigerators with an automatic switchover time of less than 10 milliseconds, providing grid-tied savings when the grid is up and off-grid independence and security when it is down or compromised
