FRV Australia, owned by Jameel Energy and OMERS Infrastructure, has commissioned the 100 MW / 200 MWh Terang battery energy storage system (BESS) in Victoria – its first standalone, utility-scale battery project in Australia. The commissioning was announced on 30 September 2026.
48 containers, 38 inverters
According to the announcement, the facility uses 48 SolBank 3.0 battery containers manufactured by e-Storage and 38 SMA inverters. Canadian Solar was the EPC contractor and TEC-C the balance-of-plant contractor. The plant runs on grid-forming inverter technology supported by an AUD 7 million grant from the second round of the Victorian Government’s Energy Innovation Fund. Construction created around 40 full-time-equivalent roles.
Gnarwarre next
FRV Australia’s 250 MW / 500 MWh Gnarwarre BESS is under construction and targeted for completion at the end of 2027. The company also has a pipeline of standalone BESS and solar-plus-storage hybrid projects in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.
Michael Steiner, CEO of FRV Australia, described the commissioning of Terang as a defining moment for the company, demonstrating its ability to develop and operate utility-scale dispatchable energy infrastructure.
As part of the project, FRV Australia also sponsored the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF) and the Terang Mortlake Netball Club.
